When they say "living your dreams", "dreams" usually means plans in a vague sense that includes daydreams, fantasies, plans made while half-asleep at 1am, and things like that, and not necessarily REM sleep where dream-dreams happen. This poll is about the actual REM sleep variety of dream.

I feel like there must have been an occasion where I dreamed about doing X and I'd never thought about doing X before, but after waking from the dream, thought, "hey! X is a good idea, I should do it." I can't remember a specific one, though. I've dreamed about kissing people and about driving cars before I had actually done either, and when I got around to it found that both experiences were surprisingly similar to how I'd imagined they were. But I'm not sure that's the sort of thing you meant to ask about.

I had a dream that struck me as not merely realistic but quite possibly a good idea. I didn't end up doing it myself, but someone else did a very similar thing :-)

Relatedly, I've had quite bad dreams which inspired me to do things in real life that then turned out much better than in the dream. For instance, I had a few years of ridiculous dreams about having to sit maths exams which I was totally unprepared for, and this partly inspired me to take various maths courses with the OU and sit real maths exams. They went very well, and I stopped having the annoying dreams :-) Of course, now I get other annoying dreams.

I've had dreams about things I could work on in my research, and then gone on to incorporate them into my PhD. Does that count? :)
